IT BEGAN WITH AN ORDINARY EVENING
The room was bright.
The corner wasn’t inviting.
There is a moment when the overhead light starts to feel like the wrong answer. The day’s work is finished, but the room still looks ready for it. We imagined a light that would change that feeling without asking you to rearrange your life.
The brief for No. 001 was deliberately modest: illuminate a book, leave the rest of the room in peace, and look as considered in daylight as it does after dark. That brief gave every part of the shape a job.
The outer surface stays matte. A narrow illuminated rim marks where the shade turns inward, letting the light describe the form.
THE OBJECT, BEFORE THE LIGHT
Keep the texture.
Refine the edge.
A perfectly uniform surface would make the form easier to read and less interesting to keep looking at. In this material study, fine mineral variation gives the broad dome its quiet irregularity.
01 The dome
A low, wide profile puts the brightest surface below your seated eye line. The curve does the work; the top can stay calm.
02 The support
The taper carries the shade into the table in one uninterrupted line. Its width is part of the composition: enough presence to ground the dome, enough space around it to keep the object light.
03 The unfinished question
A convincing image is the beginning of product development. Heat, stability, electrical safety, repair access, and the final ceramic process would still need physical prototypes and testing.
